Music of Sorts: These Girls by Childish Gambino (Ukulele Cover)

I really love this song! This version is rough because I didn't practice it as much as I should have, but I'm obsessed so I had to post something related-- and I think this song is really light and sweet.

I love Childish Gambino as a rapper (and an actor!)

But his singing voice is killer.

Icewalkers

Hey friends! So I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to act in a few student films this year, including one for a 3rd year class at Queen's, called Icewalkers.

It was a pretty killer process. One day, I was on a frozen lake for 8 hours and I got home and thought I was on the brink of death, I swear. I coddled up in a blanket for the rest of the night.

Anyway, it's one of those post-Apocalyptic type deals (PS. I'm the lead!). It was a lot of fun and very exciting to shoot.

Slam Poetry: Telescopes

WARNING: We're about to get a lil' sappy up in here, and I'm a little disgusted with how gross and mushy I can get (as I write this I'm making my ugly "yuck, boys have cooties" face).

This last Sunday, April 5th, was mine and my boyfriends' first year of being together, so I thought I'd post this embarrassing poem I wrote and performed for/about him.

I love posting about Slam Poems and things like that because it makes me seem a lot more worldly and refined than I really am, like I just go to coffee shops and poetry slams and I order Dark Roast blends at Starbucks (in reality, I don't even know what dark roast is...I don't even drink coffee. u_u)

Anyway, I'm so unbelievably happy that my teammate and partner is someone who always inspires me-- not only to write, but to be the best me out there. Thanks, Jordan.

My first short film!

So, last month I did this super-fun thing called Focus Film Festival! It's a guerilla film festival at Queen's where you've got 72 hours to create a 5 minute short. I've made one or two shorts but this is my ~acting debut~ for screen, I guess (das me on the left!)

Above is the "fun reel" from the festival. I guess it's more like a very vague trailer about the festival-- but I'm in it giving some great slo-mo jazz hands.

Anyway, our film was Boardwalk so I thought I'd share it here (and keep in mind we did all of this over the course of one weekend). Enjoy!

Music of Sorts: Let's Get Fucked Up and Die: Motion City Soundtrack

Hey friends!

Ok, so you can probably tell by the hair that this is an old cover, but I've got a huge back-log of covers I've never uploaded so here's this one.
When I uploaded this, I had a really bad cough :( so before this take, I found about 6 where I start the song but instead I have a coughing fit. Blegh. I'm amazed I got through the whole song once.

Didn't find any ukulele chords on the internet for this song, so the verses go:
C | Dm | C | F | G | C | C | Dm | Am | G
The chorus goes:
{F | G | Am | G} (x3) | F | G | C

Music of Sorts: Ob La Di by The Beatles

Okay I'm sorry, I know it's been nothing but covers lately, but this one's a special occasion!

I just came back from Costa Rica with my cousins with the exception of my newly married cousin, David, and his wife, Marylou, who went on a Disney Cruise for their honeymoon (we're all profoundly jealous).

So we covered Ob La Di because David's the biggest Beatles fan I've ever met.

Congrats, guys!

Music of Sorts: Problem by Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea

Thought we could take a break from serious covers to see one that's just so hilariously embarrassing, that no one in their right minds would think I am proud of this.
Okay, I'm a little proud.
But it's more of laughing at myself than laughing with myself.
Yes, I even rap.

Music of Sorts: Miserable at Best by Mayday Parade

Hey friends
New cover! I won't even pretend I listen to Mayday Parade. I mean, I think I saw them once at Warped Tour and I know maybe 2 of their songs... but this is one of them!
And it's right up my alley because the sad stuff is what I'm all about (that totally makes it sound like I'm loads of fun at parties................)

This is also the perfect opportunity to realize that I make really ugly sad faces when I sing.

Let's Laugh: Food Challenge

So my cousin, Lianne, runs a youtube channel called physicsandbeer and once in a while I appear in her videos. This one's a food challenge: we grabbed numbers out of a box and those numbers corresponded with either a delicious or disgusting food... then we filmed our reactions.

I got pretty lucky. Lianne, not so much.

Music of Sorts: Only You by Garfunkel and Oates

Hey-o! Back in action with another cover. I swear I post other things but in the mean time, here's a cute song about love and how it's great (even though sometimes it's not but that's not the point).

If you're not familiar with Garfunkel and Oates, make yourself familiar! They do the catchiest and slightly inappropriate songs about prescription weed, meeting people you totally don't remember, and my personal favourite: self-esteem. Oh, and don't even pretend you don't recognize Oates from Scrubs/Cory in the House/The Big Bang Theory.

Music of Sorts: Your Song by Ellie Goulding

To kick off this blog, which is a totally sundry pile of everything, I'm posting a cover. Actually, I'm digging up a cover from a while back.
I've always loved music, like any regular human being, and thought of it as one of the best ways of expressing emotion when thought fails.
So whose song is this? Yours!
But in reality.... My best friend's, because I love her, and I've already promised to sing this at her future wedding.

I'll also be the first to admit I'm a pretty sub-par guitar player, so I thought it'd be helpful to link the chords I use (because they'll always be super easy)!
