Getting Really Sad When Your Favourite Thing Gets Popular

Am I the only one who does that? Because for me, that definitely happened with Game of Thrones, but it's applicable to anything! The revival of Doctor Who, when Scott Pilgrim was made into a movie, Community-- ya know.

I had started watching it from the very first episode (April 17, 2011) and from then on, I was hooked. I devoured the first four books (and pretty much absorbed them into my skin) but by the time I was on the 5th one, I was literally afraid that i would feel purposeless without A Song of Ice and Fire.

So I cut down my reading to one page a day. Eventually I gave up on that and finished Dance with Dragons, too, and I only had 2 or 3 other friends who really knew what Game of Thrones was.

Years later, it started getting popular. It was exciting for me! My high school knew that I was the go-to person about it, and people would ask me for a countdown exactly of how many days until the next season. Trying to convince people to read the books was like a challenge.

But then it grew... and grew... and grew... suddenly, it was abnormal if you didn't like Game of Thrones. It didn't feel like my special thing anymore, events that last year were empty were sold out and packed, and everybody was talking about it. I felt like Tyrion post-Purple Wedding but pre-Essos

But then it hit me... everyone was talking about it.

Now, I have so many people I can rave to about Game of Thrones! And every time someone who watches the show tells me they're going to start reading the books, I absolutely light up! My dad started reading the series and today asked me if I knew that Jamie and Cersei were twins. This is the man who thought that Tywin and Tyrion were both named Tywin. Precious.

It's not your special little thing anymore, but a bigger fanbase means more events, means the show doesn't get cancelled, means even more for you!

Exciting, right? At least, most of the time.
